Description

When you set up a new aquarium or pond, the level of ammonia, which is harmful to fish, may spike to more than 4 ppm (mg/L). This will drop quickly as the biological filter starts working. The filter will change the ammonia to nitrite (also dangerous), and then to nitrate. This whole process can take a few weeks.
